H1: Self Storage Tips: Landscaping Must-Haves

When it comes to building renovations and property makeovers, landscaping is the icing on the cake. It’s the final element that ties everything together into one visual masterpiece.

At Uncle John’s RV Park, we’ve been working to tame the beautiful greenery surrounding our RV storage near Bonney Lake ever since we began offering self storage over 40 years ago. We’ve learned that the secret to great landscaping is to include the right things in your landscaping plan.

Check out our top five landscaping must-haves that will help turn your yard into a stunning landscape!

1. Native Plants & Flowers

The best way to create and maintain stellar landscaping is to work with Mother Nature instead of fighting against her. When it’s time to select the types of plants you want to use, don’t just pick plants based on the color of their flowers or how they look. Take time to do your research and find plants that are also native to your environment. Native plants will grow quicker, be healthier, and require less hands-on care throughout the year than plants that are not suited to the growing conditions in your area.

2. Annuals & Perennials

Another thing to consider when choosing and planting your greenery is if they are annual plants or perennial plants. Annual plants tend to have beautiful flowers, but the plant only lives for a short season. Once dead, it will leave an obvious hole in your landscaping that can quickly become an eyesore. If you don’t have extra time to dedicate to landscape maintenance, you may want to consider planting only perennial plants so you never risk having gaps. If you do decide to use annuals, be sure to mix in some perennial plants among your annuals. That way you will always maintain some greenery year-round.

3. Hardscape

Hardscape is anything you use in your landscaping that is not a living thing. Some examples of hardscape include a brick or cement patio, stone retaining walls, or a wooden archway for your climbing roses to grow on. Hardscape can add character and style to your landscaping while also helping define your flower beds and keep plants from spreading out of their assigned spots. Great landscaping includes elements of both landscape and hardscape strategically placed to balance each other and create beautiful outdoor scenes.

4. Focal Points

Focal points are especially important if you have a lot of space to work with. A focal point is something placed in the middle of your landscaping to purposefully draw attention and be the center of your masterpiece. This could be a stone bench where visitors can sit and enjoy the view or even a statue. Another popular focal point is water features. Though they do require a little extra care, fountains and waterfalls add an extra dose of peace and serenity and can attract native birds who will fill the area with their calming songs.

5. A Dedicated Storage Space

Nothing ruins the effect of great landscaping like a misplaced bag of potting soil or gardening tools left out among your flowers. Great landscaping takes hard work to maintain, so you will need a variety of supplies and equipment to care for it properly. Make sure you have a dedicated storage place where you can safely stow and organize all of your gardening gear. This could easily be a specific corner of your garage or you could build a small tool shed in an inconspicuous spot. If you find yourself short on space, a nearby storage unit can make an excellent tool shed!
